Hey everybody if you like me and you've. uh you really have a passion for. affordable Aviation there's a company in. the market that has really devoted. themselves and their business to. providing products to us one of these. companies is GRT avionics GRT makes. lowcost ephis systems that have all of. the horsepower of their big dollar. competitors but at a fraction of the. cost now if you look at their competitor. like Dina Garmin mgl mgl not made in. America by the way but all of their. competitors what do you see high cost. you're looking at something 10 15. $20,000 for an epas GRT I've got the. sport EX in this plane when I bought it. originally it was aot little bit cheaper. but right now you can get one of their. base packages for $1,800 1,800 bucks for. an eepas I mean that's insane now you. can do a few addons you can get digital.

Engine monitoring all of those things. but again you can make a fully. integrated IFR platform off of the 4dx. for something around $4 or $5,000 it is. a great value especially for guys like. me who. love got to love the Jets for guys like. me who are really into affordable. Aviation so if this is the type of. company you like and the type of. products that you want to see go out to. GRT avionics take a look at what they've. got and with that let's get to the video. hey everybody welcome back to the. channel so this year I've decided that. it's time for me to finally break down. and get back into some light training so. what I've decided to do is again. showcasing what these great Zenith. airplanes can do is I'm going to work on. my instrument rating so I spent the last. probably year year and a half getting. this plane ready for this so I've put in.

A VR I've put in uh Glide slope I've got. all the instrumentation I need to. actually do the IFR training I need in. my zenith which is going to be kind of. fun because I've got so much time and. I'm very comfortable in the airplane the. only downside I'm running into is I. can't find an examiner who's willing to. do a checkout or basically do the check. ride in this plane so I'll be able to do. the majority of my IFR training in this. plane but once I'm ready to do um my. check ride I'm going to have to. transition over to another aircraft. probably 172 or Piper Archer or. something like that get familiar with. that plane and then use that to be my. check ride but what I'm planning on. doing in this next little video series. is taking you guys along with me on my. IFR training so what I've got is I got. my buddy Hansen he's a.

Cfii and he's agreed and again we work. together we spend a lot of time together. so we're going to be doing the training. in my plane so I'm going to go do the. preflight right now head over to Yuma. and pick him up at his hanger and from. there we're going to start the first set. of training so today I'm probably to. spend about an hour hour and a half. under the fogles and uh then we're going. to do it cross country over to kxo so. I'll have you guys join along it's not. going to be kind of a flight Vlog but. what it's going to be is showing you. kind of the highlights and some of the. things that I'm seeing is interesting. for this type of training so let's jump. in the plane and head over to. Yuma. ready to go everything is ready to go so. let's call and take. off sumon traffical 8 over departing. Runway 35 going to part the area to the.

Uh East. Summerton all instrumentation is. green L up proper Runway. go off. brakes. obstacle and we're off the. ground all right everybody so we're on. the ground here in Yuma let's go pick up. Ron and uh get this flight lesson. started Runway 35 at Z 31 01014 clear. for takeoff F direction of. departure all good way to the Cherokee. and then clear for takeoff up and. Direction take up will be. North sky9 myf extend down I'll call. your base traffic departing. Runway we'll extend the downwind wait. for your call for the base 69 ml all. right nobody on nobody on. pel you want to try a instrument takeoff. or wait on that we'll wait on that. okay all right what you want to do is go. ahead get lined up and then just kind of. watch that so you know right at 3 350 so. that's what you would be doing. down you know 350 you see you got off to.

Like 352 start going over to the right. Y and we got plenty of Runway so. yeah want to pick up some speed here. real. quick and we'll climb out it's going to. climb me up to 2,000 but I can do that. while I put on the. fogles all right and I'm going to. disconnect the autopilot autopilot. disconnect all right there we go I'm in. the foggles all. right November 8 Lio November flight. following available on 125.5 change. approve change. appr. all right so let's track outbound on the. 330 33 radio so 330 would. be they want me track 330. so. radial and we haven't. hit yeah yeah I was going just make a. leading turn into it just because we're. getting. close so um the bottom of these. um that's that's actually where like uh. to intercept the course while the top or. the bottom just. flipped so we're so we're tracking the.

Outbound 330 radial. yep so this time in this flight I'm. starting to get an idea of how hard an. IFR rating is going to be you know until. now I've just thought yeah it's. something that you I'll be able to knock. out I've got 300 hours I've got a lot of. time in this airplane it should be. really comfortable to me but it's right. about now that I'm starting to set in. and sink in how difficult this rating is. going to be I just was having all kinds. of fun just trying to maintain the. correct altitude so I'd climb 100 feet. I'd descend 100 feet I'd overshoot I'd. undershoot coming back up it was just. all I could do just to focus on flying. this outbound course maintaining. altitude maintaining air speed. and again I'm trying to do this all. without the autopilot even though I do. have the autopilot so after this uh we.

Headed out to kxo to meet up with some. friends and just flew this whole route. again with the fogles on just to give me. more time cross country under the hood. where the tip of that would be so as it. gets closer keep turning into it yeah so. turn into it so we're on a but don't. turn too much yeah yeah just trying to. do a little at T. hold that 1122 traffic 12:00 5 mil. opposite direction indicating. 2,900 kind to hold that till. we so do you get a flight. direct should me give me something here. in just a. second acknowledge we. go farm should be good but may not have. executed it is that telling us we need. to turn to the the right to get on. course no I think it is there's the. runway oh it didn't execute their. approach Min all right and Airfield is. in. sight. obstacle why are we floating so bad cuz. we're so light we've lost all that.

Weight bur off all that fuel. yeah all. right. 29. and the last. ran. again it's kind. of. rewind but now. I'm I can't believe it's true I'm just. colle traffic experimental 8 Li. overtaken Runway 26 dep parting the area. to the north. kxo CLE. final CLE right right clear. left. off the. brakes tails. up. wayo. uhoh we getting some we yep obstacle. what is up with that Runway I don't know. those bmps I mean I was just going. one is. latched there we go much. better. we're climbing just fine we're 500 ft a. minute yep yep. obstacle now I'll get the fogles on we. get up through. 500 I'm on. course now the one thing I dislike about. this autopilot if I click um if I give. the autopilot control right now what. it'll do. is it will automatically turn back to. intercept directly it won't say okay I'm. going to intercept this and pick it up.

It's got to do it in a different. way so I like to get on course first and. then give it the autopilot. yeah it takes the shortest path it takes. the shortest. path. so now that I'm on on course I can go. turn on the autopilot autopilot on and. we'll go have an altitude and it's. engaged gives me a chance to but you see. what I mean where it wants to get. perfectly on course. first which is why sometimes I just take. it away and just go nope goodbye. autopilot. disconnect I said it just wants to be. directly. on Bravo coming through 2000 upwind. Runway 28 that's. all all right so we're on our way back. from kxo at this point and just kind of. have the autopilot on cruising back the. original plan was to go do holds around. the Imperial VR to the m approach going. into imperial but based on time we. decided to head back into Yuma and do a.

Few holds Around The Bard VR and then. the uh approach into Yuma on the the. vr17 Now by this time I'm pretty much. Tas saturated I've been under the fogles. at at the end here for almost 2 hours so. you can tell based on my radio calls. here in just a few minutes how tired and. how mentally saturated I was at this. point. yeah so I am. still not quite to the V. yet. and so in here you're you're really. not needle you you should just be you. know you should have had a heading. pretty much set up okay so they're. clipped stand R turn in yep to. 360 and then we'll keep an eye on that. um I'm watching altitude as well so we. are going to fly past it which is fine. yeah but when we turn to that 360 we. just want to make sure that wind doesn't. blow us back on top of it so we may end. up turning to 5 10 15 uh deg to the.

Right uh to keep from getting blown over. the top of it yeah all right. so rolling out on 360 heading. y I'm going to go up for that is at 1538. or 2338 is when we saw okay and then you. see where this is in relation to that. dot as long as it stays right there. you're good if it's if it starts. drifting further away you need to turn. towards it a little bit Yeah I watch my. heading also kind of drift in too so. y but yeah 360 358 somewhere in there. looks like it's it's going to be good. for our outbound heading yep all right. so what was it 38 seconds 38 8 seconds. so 18 19. 20 I'm climbing and I don't want. to so just so you can see visually. here's where we are we're paralleling. the outbound which is good okay and. that's 38 so I'm going to make a. standard rate turn in yep and so this. you basically you're going to kind of.

Fly a teardrop you're going to fly. around and come back in. and so you're going to need like an. intercept angle to intercept that so. instead of. 157 well plus the wind we might need to. be like 130 you know 120 Victor Alpha. clear direct Paradise clim maintain Fly. level. 220 so just keep this keep this turn. coming around to like 120 until you see. that line coming in okay and then. basically you're wanting to stop on top. of that. line too much spank Aviator 54 clear. altimer 3 Niner ascending at 400 ft a. minute so we. will I'm going stop there cuz that is. the heading we were thinking of but yeah. that's not off to the side a little. bit well no we we still have to yeah. know what I'm saying on the inbound leg. no M 7 Victor Alpha traffic at your 3:00. in 3 miles westbound is an arch. 8,500 right now it shows me as.

Oh I know why I'm doing. that uh not thinking correctly 5 GF. traffic at your 9:00 3 miles Northwest. bound is a King Air at 7,100 coming so. yeah keep the turn coming around to 120. or if you see us get on top of that line. yeah I think that was the thing you saw. us coming on top of the line but we were. not headed in the right direction yeah. so I need to come back this way aircraft. two Z miles uh West. at 1,300 this. is okay so we'll stop it about right you. said right at 120 just keep going keep. going 120 we're getting close keep going. all the way over to. 120 all right rolling out on one two Z. 2500. ft. okay and now what's your distance from. Bard uh right is not going to give. me we're almost there and we're still. not really on course so you know keep. going a little more to the left okay not. much. but okay now it's coming in but we're.

Like almost on top of it too so I'm. going to yeah don't go too crazy though. about 135 yeah yep hold it there hold it. there well okay but we're right on top. so let's go ahead and start our well. start our turn okay so we got. 27 I'm looking at 18. seconds and you're going to go to. 337 plus whatever you need for that wind. correction which 360 seem to work pretty. good so we'll turn all the way to. 360 so as I said earlier by this point I. am just mentally drained and my radio. work is the first thing that suffers so. you'll hear here in just a second as I'm. talking to the Y Tower just how uh well. I'm able to enunciate and readback their. instructions to. me y Tower experimental Niner one8 Lima. November experimental 918 Lima November. y Tower yeah we're just over the bar V. we're coming in for a practice approach.

Runway uh V. 17 experimental ner 18 Lima November. Roger discussion Circle East of the. field center right downway 3. 5 uh circle to the uh uh one more time. sorry about that 8 November at pass. discussion Circle East of the field to. enter our right down one forway 35. maintain. 1,200 all right maintain 1,200 Circle. East of the field for right down or left. down one for 178 November November. andent right down one right down one for. no 35 right down one for Runway 38. November okay 73 left on three cont. ground off now yeah switch that to. 167 a lot to drop here luckily this. thing drops Like a Rock Y and like if. you touch down about where the Zulu 3. turnoff is that's you still got like. 3,000 ft of Runway yeah I. know. trim on Rich car beat. on. number three Hotel Ser base turns. approve 351 0 1 0 at 1 one check down.

Clear land yeah clear land 35 for 3. here November eight8 Li November left at. the end contact ground went. off left at the end ground one off eight. Li. November this. my uh push talk just. stopped like having that EX on November. no delay Ono. please no delay November you want me to. get up at 8 sure make a left turn on 8. and right on are you going to the. Northwest yes I'm going to Northwest. left on eight and right on. two all just took out from Yuma over to. Summerton all this training day is. completed experimental 8 November CL. course unrestricted. Summerton unrestricted on course. Summerton. November. it's true. I'm all right everybody debrief time. so flying IFR for the first time or. simulated IFR is humbling I mean. extremely humbling there's many times on. this flight where I had a hard time. holding out M itude you know you just.

All of the things you've relied on the. past you're just not there anymore and. so I'm glad I'm doing this training and. I'm glad I've got somebody that I uh. trust as a CFI to take me through it but. it is a lot harder to do than you think. it is the first time now I'm pretty sure. it's going to get easier as we go on I. mean right now I've got um you know I. did 6 hours under the hood for my. Private Pilot certificate and now I've. got another two uh towards my instrum so. I've got about 8 hours of time under the. hood but I can guarantee you that is. definitely not enough and this is. probably why a lot of private Pilots. have problems when they go into IMC. conditions so again I'm going to be um. talking to you guys more and more about. what I'm doing and some of the things. that were really difficult for me and.

Hard for me to kind of wrap my head. around as I'm going through them um you. saw me do a hold pattern today um one of. the issues I had with that was just kind. of visualizing and 3D space how to enter. how to exit the holds and then you saw. what happen afterwards with my radio. communications just. you know because you got your brain. doing so many things at the same time. you know something as simple as right. downwind just doesn't click in your head. or even the right Runway sometimes so. glad I had Ron there glad I had an. instructor kind of helped me through it. but I'm going to be giving you guys more. and more of this content as I move. closer and closer to getting my IFR. rating completed so again if you like. this type of content give me a like. subscribe follow along and watch me. through this process did an instrument.

rating to my resume and again doing it. in a 601 Zenith which not many people. have done so till next time as me Larry. Nelson telling you guys for planes like. this and for projects like you're. building your garage get in there get. them done get in the sky see you guys. next. time
